If I’m on my period, you know I’m drinking this tea. This recipe is one of the most effective tools I have in my arsenal against period pain. I will generally begin drinking this in the days leading up to my period to help my body ease into this time for physical hibernation.

Recipe,

-Boil water

-A teaspoon of loose raspberry leaf

-Honey according to taste

Why the Raspberry Leaf?

Raspberry leaf tea is well known for its benefits in supporting woman’s health. It’s a wonderful source of vitamins B and C and minerals such as Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, and Iron. More research needs to be done but there may be evidence that it may even help reduce symptoms associated with PMS and Menstruation such as Cramps, Nausea, and Diarrhea.

A Caution,

It is recommended that you limit the consumption of raspberry leaf tea to 1 to 3 cups a day.

Most people have no problem digesting raspberry leaf tea but some may experience the opposite of the desired effect such as loose stools and increased urination. With any dietary change, it is always wise to consult your doctor.

Why Cinnamon?

A major factor in pain during menstruation is inflammation which makes cinnamon a key component in easing discomfort. According to this study on The Effect of Cinnamon on Menstrual Bleeding and Systemic Symptoms With Primary Dysmenorrhea, the women given cinnamon saw a significant reduction in pain, nausea, and even menstrual bleeding was significantly less than the placebo group.

Why Honey?

Honey has many known health benefits for women, like easing cramps. It has been suggested that honey may alleviate cramps all together for some women, because it may lower the production of prostaglandins which are known for causing pain during menstruation.
